Sitar Duet & Tabla Duet

Partho Chatterjee (Sitar)
Purbayan Chatterjee (Sitar)
Anindo Chatterjee (Tabla)
Anubrata Chatterjee (Tabla)

This four-member Hindustani classical ensemble features two father and son masters of North Indian sitar and tabla. Shri Parthapratim Chatterjee and his son Purbayan Chatterjee, both on sitar, will be accompanied on tabla by the great Pt. Anindo Chatterjee and his son Anubrata Chatterjee.

The ensemble celebrates the musical "Legacy" of the late Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, the great sitar maestro who has become an idol of many Indian classical musicians. Banerjee learned sitar from the great Ustad Allaudin Khan of the Senia Maihar Gharana, who also taught Ravi Shankar and his own son, Ali Akbar Khan.

Purbayan's father Partha Chatterjee is one of the most prominent disciples of Nikhil Banerjee. He started teaching Purbayan in the style of the great maestro at the age of 5.

Purbayan is widely considered to be one of the finest sitarists to emearge from the ranks in the last ten years.

Tabla maestro Anindo Chatterjee is unquestionably one of the greatest living exponents of the Farukkhabad Gharana (school) of tabla. An awardee of the "Sangeet Natak Academy Award" given by the President of India he has performances with the most legendary of artists in all corners of the globe. He spent 20 long years accompanying the great Pt. Nikhil Banerjee and hence is the most familiar with the subtlest nuances of his style of playing. His son Anubrata Chatterjee is being groomed by his father to best represent this style of playing and to carry the tradition further.

The program will include performances of Parthapratim Chatterjee accompanied by Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, Anubrata accompanying Purbayan, a tabla duet between Anindo and Anubrata and then a grand finale of the ensemble together.
